UAA Finals: 17U Clutch Performers

Trevon Duval ()

Trevon Duval, considered the top point guard in the Class of 2017, was locked in on Friday afternoon at the UAA Finals in Atlanta.

The five-star floor general, along with the scoring pop of Eric Ayala, guided WE R1 to the 17U division after a pair of dramatic victories. Duval scored 22 points, grabbed seven rebound, dished nine assists and recorded four assists in a double overtime win over the Indy Hoosiers.

In the quarterfinals, the 6-foot-4 Duval finished at the rim with authority, many times over a bigger defender. He ended with 17 points, five boards, seven dimes, a steal and a block.

WE R1 is set to face Team Felton in the semifinals at 8:30 p.m. on Court 4.

Trevon Duval's running mate, Eric Ayala, caught fire several times on Thursday. In a tight battle with DC Premier, Ayala went on an individual run, attacking the basket twice -- once with the left hand, once with the right -- before using a step-back move to knock down a 3-pointer from the top of the key Those were seven of his 19 points, and they came at a crucial point as WE R1 extended its lead to double figures.

In the morning, Ayala had 30 points, knocking down 4-of-9 from three, in the instant classic against the Indy Hoosiers.
